I initially wanted to call this episode, “Find Your Greatness” until I realized it’s not so much about greatness we’re focused on. When I first started out, I wasn’t quite sure if my cause would be a for-profit or non-profit. All I knew was that I was the founder.
A founder had clout and prestige. Plus, no one told me I could be an entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur wasn’t even a very popular term within my social circles. All I wanted to do was make to a difference.
In some respects, we all want to make a difference. However, a social entrepreneur eats, breathes, and sleeps about making this difference. Sometimes we sacrifice money, fame and/or glory for impact. Or, maybe not. I could be wrong. But more than likely, I’m not.
This isn’t to tell if your motivations are right or wrong. My path is because of my faith. This journey has been long. My struggle has been different and difficult in comparison to the masses, but similar to others. There are others who I’m sure have faced the same adversity. After many heartbreaking defeats and rejections, I had to find the social entrepreneur within me else I would be here today.
Everyone’s journey of social entrepreneurship will be different. Different doesn’t mean isolation. Find your Social Entrepreneur by using your experiences, people’s input, community resources and your heart. Stay honest. Be sincere. The work is hard, but it’s worth it.
