My Faith

To be a Godpreneur is precariously unique. Every entrepreneur and business leader struggles to find the healthy balance of both worlds. A daily walk in God is hard. To add another level of complexity of being an entrepreneur has a potential of scaring people away from their rightful position of their blessing.

Having a business is already out of the norm, and to add a walk with Christ makes is extraordinary. However, God call us to do more with our talents. Our purpose is clear. We are to be the light in a spiritual sense. In addition, the focus is doing the Godly thing rather than the “good thing.”

I Almost Died

I Almost Died

On a regular day during my Marine Corps career of practicing for war, some of the drills we ran were extremely dangerous. When I was in the Philippines, we did some training with their Marines. More specifically, the drill was a beach assault.

For those that don’t know, Marines are a subsidiary of the Navy. Therefore, the Navy is  responsible for the majority of our transportation especially at sea.

On a day of the live exercise of storming the beach, I almost died. As one of my buddies said, “I’m glad you were in there. Your angel saved us.” I chuckled back and said, “God is good.” But let me start from the beginning.

Boarding the Amtrack

As we get back on boat the day prior, everyone is assigned with their Marine Amtrack (an amphibious assault vehicle). With a couple of practice runs of beach assualts, we we’re ready to go live with our fellow Marines from the Philippines.

It’s my turn to get into the amtrack with my team. We’re ready for the doors to close and take a nap for our individual beach attack. As my team and I await our turn to hit the water, I start engaging in conversation with the with one of the amtrack operators.

One of the main questions I ask all my transporters, “how good is this vehicle?” Since I used to be licensed to drive, I know not all operate at 100%. My man said it was one of the top 3. I’m like “cool” and got ready to take my nap in the back.

But to make sure I’m good to go before I relax, I asked him what should happen if we take on water. He explained how they would close up all the doors and allow it to sink. While we sink to the bottom, everyone puts on life jackets. Once we hit the bottom, an air bubble will allow us to break the seal and head up to the surface. So I ask one more question.

[Me- Myself]
[CC- Crew Chief]

Me: There’s a lot of water up in here now.
CC: Yeah, but we have bilge pumps that pump it out.
Me: How do you know when it’s too much water?
CC: You’ll know when it gets to that line. [he points to a line that goes to our waist level]
Me: Wow, ok. That’s high.
CC: Yep, and she’s too good to take on that much.
Me: Alright then, cool. Thanks!
CC: Your welcome, Corporal.

Change of Plans

The time has come to get comfortable, and take a bit of a power nap. I’m not one to truly go into a slumber when I nap, but I appreciate the time to relax. The trip was about 20 minutes, so I hunkered down.

As the amtracks were taking off, we awaited our turn. We were one of the last ones. Until a few bangs on the back doors 2 minutes later.

CC: Time to get out.
Me: What’s going on?
CC: You guys on being transferred to another squad, Corporal.
Me: Alright, thanks!

In my mind, it was the whole “hurry up and wait” thing again. You grow accustomed to move with urgency later to find out you’re 2 hours early to the actual event. Good ol’ Marine Corps, but that’s government period. And now we’re in another amtrack with a different crew, so I ask the same questions.

Me: So how good is this rig?
CC: She’s one of the oldest ones out here. She has her good and bad days, but runs like a Cadilac.
Me: Alright then, I got the rundown from the last guys so I should be fine in case of an emergency.
CC: Good to go.

Ten minutes later we debark into the ocean. The ride is smooth as can be. Our cabin is filled with noise and mild diesel fumes. But I couldn’t stop to stare at the gradual water level rising inside. A few moments later, the crew member started to communicate more frequently.

Me: What’s going on?
CC: One of our bilge pumps won’t fire on, so we’re working on it.
Me: Oh, ok. Is this normal?
CC: Yeah, she’s our Cadilac but she’ll be fine.
Me: She’s good and faithful, uh?
CC: Well, it looks like another one just went out. Excuse me Corporal.

Rising Water

The water level doesn’t stop rising. It’s to the top of our boots. I’m realizing we’re about another 12 inches until we have to sound the alarm. When I look up, some of the Philippine Marines were throwing up in the water and pulled the cord to inflate their life jackets.

In the safety debrief, vomit chunks clogs up the bilge pubs. Also, the life jackets were only to be inflated after we hit the ocean floor. At this time, the water had raised another 5-8 inches. The crew chief comes back to the rear and sits down.

Me: So what’s going on now?
CC: We only have 1 pump working. They’re sending another back to come get you guys.
Me: What happened to being a Cadillac?
CC: She’s having a bad day.

By now, I’m getting a bit more concerned because we’re inches away from the line of when they close up the hatches and prepare to hit bottom. I’m thinking the diesel fumes are so bad, I can’t take a deep breath to make it back up to the surface. It was hard to breathe and the Marines were getting antsy. More were vomiting and pulled their life jacket cords.

A few minutes later, I hear “let’s go!” The other track was here. Time to transfer to the other one.

I Was Ready

When I was riding back, we were all looking at each other. Some were scared. Others were a bit shaken. I guess I was ready to meet my Father in heaven. My friend was looking at me like he was in disbelief.  Unfortunately, I don’t remember word for word what I said. I was just enjoying the beautiful sunset in the Philippines.

You see the death angel was there. One of the Philippine Marines lost his life that day. One of their tanks failed to see him and drove over his head.  I couldn’t imagine being anyone involved in that mistake, nor having to be on the other end of the phone call.

God spared me. He spared the life of everyone in the tank I was in. My buddy truly believed if I wasn’t in that tank it would’ve sunk. Gratefully, I can tell my testimony of God’s grace and mercy never fails.

Sure, I could have almost died. But God! God said not today. He’s an on-time God and never fails.

In Philippians 1:21 reads, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

Dream Big and Godspeed,
N

Pray or Worry, You Can’t Do Both!

Pray or Worry, You Can’t Do Both!

Not too long ago, I was going through a difficult time in my life. My mom gave me some strong advice that I’ve never heard before. She said, “Either pray and not worry, or worry and don’t pray. But you can’t do both!” And I was like, “whoaaaa…. that’s deep.”

Depending on the biblical version, Philippians 4:6 (MSG) really wraps it up for me:
“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

In the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ church, we say “let go and let God.” Keep it simple, right?! Give your problems, fears, challenges, anger and issues to Him. There’s nothing that He can’t solve.

Pray about it. Fast on it. Move on and watch how God works it out for your victory. You can either pray or worry, but you can’t do both. Let God worry for you.

God bless you!

Godly Endurance

Godly Endurance

To truly endure this race called life, you have to learn how to be strong when you’re weak. It has everything to do with understanding God’s love. Everyone’s favorite scripture is from John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

What God would give His only son as a sacrifice? Only one. As the Creator, he gives us a clear choice every single day to make. The question is, will we choose right versus wrong? No one’s perfect, so of course we make wrong decisions at times.

Wrong choices causes bad consequences. These events fall under God’s permissive will rather than His divine will. When these occurrences happen, our desired blessing will take longer or won’t happen at all until we make it right. Making things right requires a mindset of Godly endurance.

Endurance

Endure means to last. For us to last or sustain, we have to understand our daily position in God. God calls us to follow His commandments everyday. The 24 hours given to us in the day causes/forces us to grow spiritually while being used for His purpose. In this process, we choose to mature in our spiritual walk which is different from a (maturing) physical state.

Maturity is unique and special for all circumstances involved (i.e. – mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, etc). On the spiritual level, we mature through trials. These unknown trials can happen at any time with varying degrees of difficulty. We as followers don’t sign up for trials as if it’s a gladiator challenge. The trying obstacle can be at work, within family or a health bout. No one knows, but God.

God knows your weaknesses and strengths. Every test is for our development growth in spiritual maturity. He wants you to succeed. In James 1:2-4, the scriptures state “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Don’t Give Up

A great song from Yolanda Adams is “The Battle is not Yours.” Technically, it’s a biblical scripture. God knows that He’ll win, but we’re being used to show the enemy we choose God’s way. Our Godly endurance continues to choose His devine will.

In 2 Chronicles 20:15, He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.'”

I’ve included this song via YouTube. Enjoy.

Pride is Your Enemy

Pride is Your Enemy

As a leader, being humble is a true test of character. I’m learning having humility is a true test from God. Our life is for God’s glory, not ours. But it’s a constant fight with our flesh and spirit. The ‘worldly man’ has the pride that could kill someone for their glory. Yes, it’s that sickening.

In order to acknowledge that pride is your enemy, one must be humbled with humility. This type of humility isn’t what you think. If you haven’t fell to your knees and surrendered everything, then you don’t know this humility. The pain is so great that you become disoriented with confusion, anger, and sorrow. You withdraw from circles of family and friends, disconnecting yourself from God’s love.

He’s in Control

When you’re humbled to this degree, the humility becomes your fuel. God’s word encourages you that you’re not alone, but this was allowed by your Father in Heaven. In Psalm 37:23 reads, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way” (NKJV).  God’s got everything under control.

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” in Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV). Stop stressing. Don’t worry. It’s going to be okay. God’s been taking care of you this whole time, why should you be concerned?

For me, it was pride. I cared about what others thought. My goals were for my gain and little for others. I wanted to impress rather than help. I love to have control when it was time to encourage.

Trust Him

I know it’s easier said than done, but you have to Trust God. Let go and let God. Solomon wrote in Proverbs (KJV) 3:5,6- “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Like I said before, God’s got it.

God will come through when you believe in him. Otherwise, God will let you do it. And I know that I’d rather have God solve my problems, bless me and do miracles on behalf than I attempt to myself. As my mom would say, “either pray and don’t worry or worry and don’t pray, but you can’t do both.” Don’t let your pride ruin your God-given destiny. Pride is your enemy.

Humble Yourself

I’ve heard the term “humble yourself” in church during a sermon and in arguments among friends of mine. The term is widely used in different situations. I noticed some would almost take offense when being told to “humble yourself.” You’d see people shift in their seats during the sermon and people get more fired up in the middle of an argument. It was as if being told to humble yourself was an insult.

I was curious as to why it was so offensive, so I took to Google and searched for the definition of “humble.” The word humble is “having or showing a modest or low estimate of one’s importance.” In reading this, I took note that having a low estimate of one’s self doesn’t mean they have low self esteem, it just means that they choose to place others above ourselves, in a healthy way.

Of course, then after searching the internet, I had to go to my bible and see what it says about humbling yourself. And boy it was good!

James 4:10 reads “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

1 Peter 5:6 reads “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at proper time he may exalt you.”

As you can see humbling yourself before God is a powerful statement that will result in powerful outcomes. The bible says that He will lift you up! Humbling yourself before God is not only a powerful statement but it’s also a personal decision. Humbling yourself before God includes physically, emotionally, and mentally. In all these things place Him first.

Placing God first in all things is not an easy task to do. IN ALL THINGS. That’s why it’s a powerful statement to humble yourself. Having the ability to humble yourself really comes down to maturity. Your maturity may sway from day to day, depending on where you’re at in your walk with Christ. For example, I’m immature when I decide to stay seated during praise and worship due to how I feel. I’m mature when I decide to lift my hands and praise God with all I’ve got, no matter how I feel in that moment.

Sometimes in order for us to grow we must humble ourselves not just to God, but to others. As the definition says, you must have a low estimate of yourself to others. This doesn’t mean that your accomplishments go unseen or unheard, this means that you place Gods children ahead of you because of your giving heart.

Blessings pour down on those who humble themselves before God and before other people. So don’t feel ashamed in being humble. Take pride in it. Take pride in knowing that you place God first of all things, and lift others above you.

Being humble is a great characteristic to have.

“Just because you come from a product of failure, that does NOT make you a failure. You determine that.”

Your Story is for God’s Glory

Your Story is for God’s Glory

The history books are filled with great stories. There are some bad stories too. After reading several historical pieces, the story is usually told by one or two perspectives without conflict. These typical stories of history turn out to be a happy ever after.

But we all know there’s no happy ever after! Hence, all the various types of stories you hear. You can watch an action thriller, a romantic drama, or read a suspense novel. We like stories to have some sort of conflict because it’s more realistic. Life’s realities can sometimes give us some devastating blows.

My story is his-story (Nathan’s story). It’s my history in the making. No one can tell you my story like I can. It doesn’t matter how long you know me. It doesn’t matter if we are related by blood. It’s-my-story. My story can’t even be told from the children I co-created. Again, it’s my story. The only one that can tell my story better than me is God, because all of it should be for His glory.selfish-youth-300x194

And vice versa, I can’t tell your story. I don’t know your struggles and challenges. Those accomplishments and accolades aren’t mine. Your story is yours. The only one that can tell your story better than you is God. We are God’s creation.

In the New American Standard Bible (NASB), it reads:
For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 6:20

Serve Others

For some reason, we get big headed and believe we’re only supposed to serve ourselves. Life isn’t only about you and I. It’s about serving others. Life’s greatest gift is love, which why our purpose leads us to helping people. You can’t be successful without assistance, so don’t believe you aren’t supposed to help others along the way.

Here are a couple of biblical references. I don’t want anyone saying that Nathan told you to serve. The Word of God (the Bible) told you to serve others by helping our sisters and brothers. In the secular these words would be helping humanity.

In the Amplified Bible, it reads:
For you, my brothers, were called to freedom; only do not let your freedom become an opportunity for the sinful nature (worldliness, selfishness), but through love serve and seek the best for one another.
Galatians 5:13

It was revealed to them that their services [their prophecies regarding grace] were not [meant] for themselves and their time, but for you, in these things [the death, resurrection, and glorification of Jesus Christ] which have now been told to you by those who preached the gospel to you by the [power of the] Holy Spirit [who was] sent from heaven. Into these things even the angels long to look.

1 Peter 1:12

In the Message Bible, it reads:
God didn’t set us up for an angry rejection but for salvation by our Master, Jesus Christ. He died for us, a death that triggered life. Whether we’re awake with the living or asleep with the dead, we’re alive with him! So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it.
1 Thessalonians 5:9-11

Give God the Glory

Since the day I’ve received my salvation, I was always told to give God the Glory. No matter the situation or circumstance, your story is for God’s glory. In Colossians 3:17 (AMP), “Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Remember, it’s not about being selfish- it’s all about being selfless.

I write this because my business is personal because this service is for the advancement of all humanity. My failures and successes are for your gain. No strings attached.

Step Into Your Destiny

Below is a testimony given at a women’s conference, Step Into Your Destiny, on July 22nd, 2016.

Women’s conferences are a great way to reach the women in our lives. They’re a tremendous way to come together in a healthy environment and be one. The beautiful thing about a women’s conference is that we are from all walks of life. Some of us are new to our walk with Christ, while others have been following Him most of their lives. And there are others who don’t know Him at all. None of that matters though. God is pleased that he has his daughters together today.

Unfortunately, some of us are hurt today as we sit in our seats. Broken. Defeated and you might even be wondering why you’re here. Maybe you’re in a rut and just can’t see past today and you’ve given up.

Some people complain and say that this whole Christian thing isn’t working for me. I’ve tried it. The whole walking with Christ thing just isn’t working for me.

The truth is you probably haven’t even begun yet. Let’s be honest.

  • When was the last time you picked up your bible to hear God speak?
  • When last did you go to your secret place and pray? Talked to Him?
  • When was the last time you went to church?
  • Have you been telling other people about your problems instead of telling God?
  • When was the last time you poured your heart out to God and asked him to fill you up?

Listen, I’ve been guilty of all of that. I’ve failed on my end of the relationship with God. I wasn’t dedicated enough. I didn’t pick up my bible. I didn’t pray. I didn’t go to church. And I was telling everyone my problems except Him. The one who could change it.

2016 was a new beginning for me. I started reading my bible. I started trusting God. I started talking to him more. Sometimes that tragic moment in life that seems to destroy everything you built is the exact thing you needed. I got committed. I made the choice to be committed.

When I bought my  very first car back in December I made a commitment to only play Christian radio and music. That was it. Nothing else. And I did it successfully, until I of course totaled it in March. That may seem small to you, but it was big for me and my relationship with God. I encourage you to celebrate the little victories.

I believe that the struggle today is that we lack commitment. I will be the first one to say that I lack commitment. It’s hard. It’s challenging. Sticking to something till the end, through the rough waters isn’t simple.

Just this morning I went into the tutoring center at Clark to get help with Economics. When I arrived he told me there wasn’t anyone to help me at that time. The economics tutor doesn’t come in on Fridays. I’m not going to lie to you, I was upset. I was counting on getting help at that time so I could complete my assignment.

I felt

  • Defeated
  • Disappointed
  • Sad
  • Angry
  • Only this would happen to me
  • Discouraged
  • Why am I going to school again?

I shed a few tears as I drove home. I got home and sat at my desk for a moment. A few moments later I got started on the assignment. I dug deep. I started going through the power points, reading through the book, reviewing my notes and of course Googled some things. The point is, I got committed. I turned it in on time. I got it done because I know that education is part of my destiny.

When you’re in a committed relationship with God your destiny is clear. When you know what you should be doing, you push a little harder. You work a little longer. You have breakthroughs. When you think you can’t hold on anymore. When you think you can’t handle one more minute I beg you to dig deeper. Your destiny is so close. Your future is waiting for you.

God loves you so much. You’re his daughter. He looks at you and says “my perfect beautiful daughter.”

  • For the woman who is in a financial hardship. I understand. I’ve had times when I couldn’t pay my rent on time. Trust in the Lord.
  • For the woman who is fighting a battle with health issues. I’ve had three back surgeries, all with constant vomiting afterwards. Trust in the Lord.
  • For the woman who is struggling with conceiving a child. I don’t understand what you’re going through. But I know there are others who do. You’re not alone. Trust in the Lord.
  • For the woman who is going through a divorce. I don’t know what that is like. But I’ve witnessed people around me go through divorces. Trust in the Lord.
  • For the woman who is raising a child on their own. You got this. Your child will appreciate it later. I know I appreciated my mother raising me by herself. Trust in the Lord.
  • For the woman who is alone. You’re not. God is always with you. Trust in the Lord.

Your destiny is so much greater than what you’re facing right now. I encourage you to step into your destiny.

Just because you come from a product of failure, that does NOT make you a failure. You determine that.

The Story of David Defeating Goliath

This is derived from the Bible (Amplified Version). Go to 1 Samuel 17. I’ve modified it a bit. For a direct link, see below. Enjoy my rendition of the Story David Defeating Goliath.

A Philistine named Goliath

2. Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together and they camped in the Valley of Elah, and assembled in battle formation to meet the Philistines.

3. The Philistines were standing on the mountain on one side and Israel was standing on the mountain on the other side, with the valley between them. 4. Then a champion came out from the camp of the Philistines named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. [which is about 9 feet and 10 inches tall]

5. He had a bronze helmet on his head, and wore a coat of scale-armor (overlapping metal plates) which weighed 5,000 shekels of bronze. 6. He had bronze shin protectors on his legs and a bronze javelin hung between his shoulders. 7. The [wooden] shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; the blade-head of his spear weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And a shield-bearer walked in front of him.

8. Goliath stood and shouted to the battle lines of Israel, saying to them, “Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not the Philistine and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves and have him come down to me. 9. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will become your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall become our servants and serve us.” 10. Again the Philistine said, “I defy the battle lines of Israel this day; give me a man so that we may fight together.” 11. When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.

David’s Background

12. Now David was the son of the Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, named Jesse, who had eight sons. Jesse was old in the days of Saul, advanced in years among men. 13. His three older sons had followed Saul into battle. The names of his three sons who went to battle were Eliab, the firstborn; next, Abinadab; and third, Shammah. 14. David was the youngest. Now the three oldest followed Saul, 15. but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father’s flock at Bethlehem.

16. The Philistine [Goliath] came out morning and evening, and took his stand for forty days.

17. Then Jesse said to David his son, “Take for your brothers an ephah of this roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread and run quickly to the camp to your brothers. 18. Also take these ten cuts of cheese to the commander of the unit. See how your brothers are doing and bring back news of them. 19. Now they are with Saul and all the men of Israel in the Valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.”

David’s Normal Routine

20. So David got up early in the morning, left the flock with a keeper, picked up the provisions and went just as Jesse had directed him. And he came to the encampment as the army was going out in battle formation shouting the battle cry. 21. Israel and the Philistines drew up in battle formation, army against army. 22. Then David left his provisions in the care of the supply keeper, and ran to the ranks and came and greeted his brothers.

23. As he was talking with them, behold, the champion, the Philistine of Gath named Goliath, was coming up from the army of the Philistines, and he spoke these same words again; and David heard him. 24. When the men of Israel all saw the man, they fled from him, and were very frightened. 25. The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who is coming up? Surely he is coming up to defy Israel. The king will reward the man who kills him with great riches, and will give him his daughter [in marriage] and make his father’s house (family) free [from taxes and service] in Israel.”

David sees His Opportunity

26. Then David spoke to the men who were standing by him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes the disgrace [of his taunting] from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he has taunted and defied the armies of the living God?” 27. The men told him, “That is what will be done for the man who kills him.”

28. Now Eliab his oldest brother heard what he said to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David and he said, “Why have you come down here? With whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption (overconfidence) and the evil of your heart; for you have come down in order to see the battle.” 29. But David said, “What have I done now? Was it not just a [harmless] question?” 30 Then David turned away from Eliab to someone else and asked the same question; and the people gave him the same answer as the first time.

Prove the Haters Wrong

31. When the words that David spoke were heard, the men reported them to Saul, and he sent for him. 32. David said to Saul, “Let no man’s courage fail because of him (Goliath). Your servant will go out and fight with this Philistine.” 33. Then Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight him. For you are [only] a young man and he has been a warrior since his youth.”

34. But David said to Saul, “Your servant was tending his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35. I went out after it and attacked it and rescued the lamb from its mouth; and when it rose up against me, I seized it by its whiskers and struck and killed it. 36. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has taunted and defied the armies of the living God.”

David Spoke Faith

37. David said, “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and may the Lord be with you.” 38. Then Saul dressed David in his garments and put a bronze helmet on his head, and put a coat of mail (armor) on him. 39. Then David fastened his sword over his armor and tried to walk, [but he could not,] because he was not used to them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, because I am not used to them.” So David took them off.

40. Then he took his [shepherd’s] staff in his hand and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the stream bed, and put them in his shepherd’s bag which he had, that is, in his shepherd’s pouch. With his sling in his hand, he approached the Philistine.

41. The Philistine came and approached David, with his shield-bearer in front of him. 42. When the Philistine looked around and saw David, he derided and disparaged him because he was [just] a young man, with a ruddy complexion, and a handsome appearance. 43. The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with [shepherd’s] staffs?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44. The Philistine also said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the beasts of the field.”

45. Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted. 46. This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the corpses of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, 47. and that this entire assembly may know that the Lord does not save with the sword or with the spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will hand you over to us.”

Time to Rumble

48. When the Philistine rose and came forward to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. 49 David put his hand into his bag and took out a stone and slung it, and it struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone penetrated his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground.

50. So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and he struck down the Philistine and killed him; but there was no sword in David’s hand. 51. So he ran and stood over the Philistine, grasped his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their [mighty] champion was dead, they fled.

52. The men of Israel and Judah stood with a shout and pursued the Philistines as far as the entrance to the valley and the gates of Ekron. And the [fatally] wounded Philistines fell along the way to Shaaraim, even as far as Gath and Ekron. 53. The sons of Israel returned from their pursuit of the Philistines and plundered their camp. 54. Then David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his weapons in his tent.

David Still Humble

55. When Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said to Abner the captain of the army, “Abner, whose son is this young man?” And Abner answered, “By your life, O king, I do not know.” 56 The king said, “Ask whose son the young man is.” 57 When David returned from killing [Goliath] the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. 58 Saul asked him, “Whose son are you, young man?” And David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.”

The Devil Don’t Sleep

While we sleep, be ready to rise and grind for your passion, purpose and dreams. Rise and grind everyday because the devil don’t sleep. He’s putting in work everyday, all day.

Our God-given abilities are to increase God’s Kingdom. No matter what time of day it is, God is at work giving His grace and mercy to us. Just like the devil don’t sleep, neither does God. His Angels are protecting us while our natural bodies sleep.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
-Psalm 91:11 (NIV)

Stay focused on the promise that he will keep strong. You must stay encouraged and motivated because the Creator knows what you’re going through. God doesn’t make mistakes. Everything has a purpose.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28 (NIV)

Next time while you want to sleep in, remember you’re giving into temptation. That snooze button isn’t your friend. It’s an enemy to your greatness.

God has called you to do a special talent that only you can do. There’s only one of you in this world and the devil don’t sleep on opportunities. If he sees you looking lost, he’s ready to encourage more wandering away from God.

casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]. Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. But resist him, be firm in your faith [against his attack—rooted, established, immovable], knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world. [You do not suffer alone.]
1 Peter 5:7-9 (AMP)

If you need help, stay in the word of God. Pray. Talk  to someone in the church. Stay encouraged. And receive your blessing. In Jesus name, Amen.

Faith or Fear, but You Can’t Have Both!

Last week, I was asked to speak at my church during the mid-week service. My pastors wanted me to share and testify of my situation that basically knocked the wind out of me. As I was happy to do so, my goal really was to be transparent about how my faith was being tested and my character was being persecuted. Since I’m almost two years out of a messy and nasty divorce, the problems and drama continue.  Funny, even when we were married and made the necessary steps to become the person God planned for me to be- I didn’t because I was too fearful to go on that journey of pursuing God’s calling. Hence the title. Faith or fear, but you can’t have both.

Isaiah 35:4- say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.”

About a year ago, God told me that he has called me (and everyone) to do more with our lives. I agreed. For myself, I wanted more for me, my kids, my family and friends. I think back to how my marriage took so much energy to work, and at the end of the day it was still dysfunctional. While I loved being married with kids, I didn’t like the person I became. I wasn’t truly living my dream. The dream God gave me years ago began to wane, because of fear and not being with a supportive person.

Joshua 1:9- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

My faith/relationship with God isn’t religious. He speaks directly to me. Faith has kept me in peace, especially when the enemy has set all sorts of traps in my way of helping others in their time of need. God reminds me that I continue to challenge the “status quo” and overcome my personal demons, spiritual darkness will attempt to thwart my efforts because he doesn’t want me to succeed.

Isaiah 26:3- Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

You can have faith or fear, but you can’t have both.

Ephesians 6:12- For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Within the past year, I’ve accomplished more than I could ever have imagined. I have this picture hanging up of a Great White with the word, “Ambition.” My fear would win over my faith to appease people and not myself. But then I would comeback to the poster and say, I’m that little fish. It would be so frustrating because God has called us to do more.Fear or Faith

Isaiah 41:10- So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Hopefully, by now you have taken the time to see that we all have to overcome fear. One of my favorite verses is Philippians 4:13- I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. This verse speaks to that ambition poster, but it wouldn’t speak to my reality of being that little fish. You see, back in the day when I was kid I was really overweight. I didn’t have a lot of friends. People made fun of me. I didn’t lose the weight until high school, but the damage was done and the insecurities had form. Even after joining the US Marine Corps and working out to where I had less than 5% body fat, I still was living in fear.

Isaiah 54:4- Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.

Your past doesn’t control me or you. My fear came from my past, not my future. From personal experiences, I know you can only choose one. Faith or fear, but you can’t have both. I encourage you to choose faith. God has your back, and wants you to choose Him too. When you do, He has you protected during both good and bad times.

Hebrews 13:5-6 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

Being raised in church, I never knew we had to help one another out. I pray this will help you, so we can encourage one another. And I’ll leave you with one more scripture to keep you encouraged if and/or when you’re going through something.

1 Peter 3:13-14- Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.”

Remember, you have to choose. Faith or fear, but you can’t have both.
